Meet Kappa Sigma
The New York City Alumnae Chapter Kappa Sigma of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. was established on July 28, 1936 in New York City by Sorors Juliette Boykins, Alma Bailey, Alma Jeffries, Eunice Jackson, Clara Coleman Liddle, Beulah Simpson Palmer, Augusta Strong North, Annabel Weston, and Fannie Cauldwell Williams.
Kappa Sigma is one of the oldest continuously active alumnae chapters in the northeast region and continues to strive to be the ever driving force of progress and change in its community. This chapter performs several community service projects with local schools, churches and homeless shelters and invites you to assist in their service and scholarship endeavors through volunteerism, donations, collaboration and sponsorship.
On December 29, 1939, Kappa Sigma Chapter hosted the 14th Boule in New York City. During this Boule the Notable Northeast Region was organized and Kappa Sigma Chapter was one of its eight founding chapters. The Northeastern Region is currently comprised of the following areas: Bermuda, eastern Canada, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Korea, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virgin Islands, Vermont, Virginia, and West Virginia.
